The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has released a new set of guidelines for prospective corps members as they prepare to participate in the program. The announcement, made on Monday, April 26, outlines important safety and procedural measures to ensure a smooth transition into the service year.
Key Guidelines for New NYSC Members
Prospective corps members are advised against traveling to orientation camps at night. Those traveling long distances are encouraged to break their journey into manageable segments for safety.
Additional guidelines include timely arrival at the camp, correcting any spelling errors through the NYSC application, and understanding the finality of certain documentation after the orientation process. The statement reads:
“Tips to guide Deployed Prospective Corps Members:
- Do not travel to the Orientation Camps at night. Break your journey when necessary.
- Report on your scheduled reporting date.
- Apply for spelling error and name rearrangement on your dashboard.
- After documentation in the Camp, you cannot change your Date of Birth, Date of Graduation, Course of Study, and Passport Photograph.
- Do not report to the Camp if there are any discrepancies in your course of study or the Date of Graduation on your Statement of Result and Call-up Letter. Contact your Institution to resolve the issue.”
Nigerian graduates or those with equivalent qualifications under the age of 30 are legally required to participate in the one-year NYSC scheme. Participants currently receive a monthly allowance of N33,000.
